Why this site exists

Buying or leasing an EV means weighing a higher upfront price against lower running costs, and the honest answer to "is it worth it?" depends entirely on your own numbers, like your mileage, your electricity rate, your local gas prices, and how long you'll keep the car. Most calculators we found were either oversimplified (a single slider, no real formula shown) or buried the math in a black box. We built Gas vs Volt to show its work: every formula is explained on its calculator's page, so you can check it yourself rather than just trusting a number.

How we build and check our calculators

Each calculator is built around a documented formula (shown in the "how this is calculated" section on every calculator page) and verified against hand-calculated values before it's published. Default values are reasonable U.S. averages, but they're editable; the whole point is for you to swap in your own numbers. When we're not confident a number can be kept accurate over time (like fast-changing tax credit rules), we leave it out rather than publish something that will quietly go stale.

What we don't do
